On 10 May 2020, Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation with his action plan against coronavirus. In his speech, he explained that we are working towards reducing the risk of infection and monitor the health risk by way of a five-tier warning system. With respect to the property market, Johnson’s announcement explained that if workers cannot physicaly work from home, they should continue to go to work but avoid using public transport. Johnson referred to examples such as construction workers who can go to work as their line of work does not allow them to necessarily work fromhome. If you are buying a new build property which is currently under development but has been delayed due to construction, this may mean that construction will resume and you can continue with your transaction.
With regard to estate agencies and surveyors, the public announcement has not specifically referred to these services and therefore may not resume to normal in the short term. Aston Brooke Solicitors recommends that you follow goverment guidance and contact your local estate agencies or mortgage brokers for more information on whether they will be resuming valuations and property viewings any time soon. Alternatively there may be other methods to help you continue with your property search and progress towards exchange and completion.
